Day 1: Upon your midday or early afternoon arrival into San Jose, Costa Rica you will be met and transferred approximately 1 ½ hours to the Los Angeles Cloud Forest near San Ramon. This high-elevation forest, literally in the clouds, is a misty dreamlike setting that is great for hiking and wildlife observation. Arrive at the Hotel Villa Blanca for overnight located on a 75-acre Private Biological Reserve. Day 2:  San Luis Canopy Tour - Set about 40 minutes from Hotel Villa Blanca into the placid cloud forests of Costa Rica’s Central Valley region, the San Luis canopy tour will take you on an exhilarating and safe adventure through lush, green canopy and across the majestic Rio Cataratitas. Carried securely by a system of ziplines, you will soar weightlessly through the expanse of virgin forest that grounds the tour, and find yourself in intimacy with the habitats of Costa Rica’s distinct cloud forest wildlife. The rest of the afternoon is free Guests can enjoy taking day-trips to San Ramon (known as the city of poets and artists) to experience a unique look into Costa Rican society and history. Day 3: Arenal Volcano and Hot Springs Tour (full day): This morning we will depart from Villa Blanca for travel along the continental divide into the San Carlos plains. Along the way your guide will explain dairy production and the characteristics of different crops located in San Carlos including ornamental plants, pineapple, cassava, papaya and plantains. Upon arriving in the town of La Fortuna you will learn the growing importance of tourism to this area in recent years. Next we will take a nature walk to observe the volcano (weather permitting) and discuss its history, including the most important recent eruptions. After a short walk and photo opportunity we will head to the private thermal hot springs where we will relax in the medicinal waters. Prior to the drive back to Villa Blanca we will stop at a local restaurant for a delicious campesino style lunch and more spectacular views of the volcano. Overnight Hotel Villa Blanca.

Day 4:  Morning transfer 1 and ½ hours to the domestic airport in San Jose for a short & scenic flight to Puerto Jimenez on the remote Osa Peninsula. Upon arrival, you will transfer by ground and boat to the Playa Nicuesa Rainforest Lodge for overnight. Set on a private bay, with a large stretch of black-sand beach, this is the most luxurious and impressive lodge located along the shores of the Golfo Dulce. Playa Nicuesa’s location is amazingly unique. Located on a 165-acre private preserve within a region that has been described as being one of most biologically diverse places on the earth, this area contains Central America’s largest remaining Pacific Coast rainforest. Day 8: Morning boat & ground transfer to the local airport in Puerto Jimenez for a short flight back to San Jose. Upon arrival you will be met and transferred to Hotel Grano de Oro for overnight. Day 1:   Upon your midday or early afternoon arrival into San Jose, Costa Rica you will be met and transferred approximately 3 and ½ hours to the Arenal Volcano, known for its frequent eruptions, dramatic lava flows and incandescent rock explosions. Day 2:  This morning enjoy the El Silencio de Los Angeles Guided Nature Walk - Walk around with your head in the clouds as you step into the heart of the cloud forest with our own nature interpreters who will unveil a secret world of rich tropical life along this 3 kilometer user-friendly trail. Located right on the hotel property, the trail was created by professional nature guides and designed to showcase a variety of tropical flora and fauna as it winds its way throughout this rare and incredibly diverse biosphere. Day 1:  Upon arrival in San Jose, Costa Rica, you will transfer to the Finca Rosa Blanca Coffee Plantation and Inn in Heredia for overnight. Nestled in 10 acres amid hundreds of fruit trees and dramatic tropical flora, the enchanting inn is a jewel crowning a picturesque knoll. Day 2:  Cultural Highlands Tour - Experience Costa Rican Culture and History with our knowledgeable guides who will take you on a magical journey through the colonial towns of Barva and Heredia.  Famous mask makers of Barva still pass on the traditions of mask making for the community festivals and the giant puppets that dance through the streets to the wild music of the ¨cimarrona¨, a percussion and horn accompaniment.  Visit the Iglesia of San Bartolome completed in 1575 and then on to Heredia, the provincial capital founded in 1706 and its Spanish Colonial style landmarks arranged around the Parque Central,  the main cathedral, El Fortin, the Guard tower as well as the Casa  de La Cultura, an historic colonial residence.   Experience the sights, smells and sounds of the Central Market, crowded and bustling and filled with exotic fruit, vegetables, spices and herbs.  On our way back to Rosa Blanca we will stop at the Museo de Cultura Popular which recreates Spanish colonial Costa Rica in a century-old farmhouse.   Overnight Finca Rosa Blanca

Day 3:   Poas Volcano National Park Tour - After a scenic drive through Alajuela, arrive at Poas Volcano, one of the deepest active volcanoes in the world.  Having erupted last in 1978, Poas emits a continuous flow of steam from vents adjacent to a lake deep within the main crater. Hike to the second crater, with a crystal clear rain-fed lake surrounded by lush tropical jungle, located a half-mile away via a trail through dwarf cloud forest. Among the 80 species of birds reported, several are unique to this unusual habitat. Then visit the La Paz Waterfalls and Gardens - a beautiful private wildlife refuge. Hike along nature trails and across suspended bridges to see 4 massive waterfalls including the magnificent La Paz, a butterfly garden, jungle cat exhibit, aviary, monkeys, frogs, hummingbird garden and more in this cloud forest and rain forest. Enjoy lunch before returning to Finca Rosa Blanca for overnight. 

Day 4:  This morning you will be met and transferred 3 hours to the Arenas del Mar Beach and Nature Resort, located next to the Manuel Antonio National Park on the Central Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. Unique and spectacular beach and nature experiences combined with highest levels of comfort and sustainability in a local Costa Rican setting define the concept of Arenas del Mar. Day 7 – 8: Free days to explore the region.  The resort overlooks the Manuel Antonio National Park and is set in 11 acres of nature, with private nature trails and access to two beautiful sand beaches. Other attractions and tours include sport fishing, sea kayaking, mountain biking, horseback riding, bird watching, Butterfly Farm Tour, exploring the Isla Damas Estuary by kayak or boat, Rainmaker Reserve and suspension bridges, Sunset Sailing and whitewater rafting. Guided excursions at additional cost can be pre-booked or arranged upon arrival.  Don’t forget to visit the fun shops and restaurants in the old United Fruit Company town of Quepos.
