There are many independent options for hiking in Costa Rica. With 30% of the land area protected by national parks, wildlife refuges and preserves the trails are well marked and easily accessible. Hike through rainforests, on grassy uplands, across dry lands or amble along beaches and trails in parks with less demanding terrain. Great areas for hiking are Corcovado National Park, Manuel Antonio National Park, the entire Osa Peninsula and the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve.
