The Northern Caribbean is well known for its' Tarpon and Snook while the Pacific coast is famous for record breaking Sailfish, Marlin, Dorado, Wahoo and Tuna. Barra de Colorado on the northern Caribbean coast is an extensive area of wetlands formed where the Rio San Juan and Rio Colorado empty into the sea. It is an angler's nirvana where Tarpon and Snook are the main attraction, during the peak season September through April, but clandestine freshwater fishing holes and deep-sea fishing are rewarding alternatives. While fishing is good year-round, peak seasons in the Southern Pacific, including Puerto Jimenez, Drake Bay and Golfito are during November and December while Quepos and Jaco in the Central Pacific peaks December to April. Tamarindo on the Northern Pacific has the most fertile fishing April through September.
